北京 - made in China

Beijing 30.01-06.02.2009
Immediately after getting of the plain we knew that we are in tropics. Very humid, hot air, vivid plants and palm trees - not to wander, Singapore is only 137 km north from the Equator! The country is located on an island and it covers 572 km² plus additional area of surrounding islands, all together comes just under 700 km². Apparently Singapore can be cycled around in one day! We didn’t try as there was no air conditioned bikes available for rental ;). Singapore is one of the most developed countries in Asia (right after Japan). Good examples of high standards are the people, public transport and widely available free internet access ;)

We arrived exactly for the Chinease New Year, celebrated on the 26th and 27th of January this year. The proper celebrations last much longer and many Chinease people take more time off and travel to visit the families.

We didn’t have a lot of time, but we managed to do a bike ride in East Coast Park, visit Little India and China Town, take part in Night Safarii, see the Jurong Bird Park and walk around Singapore downtown and waterfront. We really liked the night safari, which was type of a zoo open from dusk till midnight. It presented nocturnal animals from different parts of the world. We enjoyed warm evenings when we could hang around the city, great choice of Asian food and a vibrant mix of cultures. It was hard to leave this place and go to cold again… this time in Beijing.
